Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system creates antibodies that damage the thyroid gland. Although doctors don’t know what causes the immune system to attack the thyroid gland, it is believed by some scientists that a virus or bacterium triggers the response, while others believe a genetic flaw may be involved.

You might not notice signs or symptoms of Hashimoto’s disease at first, or you may notice a swelling at the front of your throat (goiter). Hashimoto’s disease typically progresses slowly over years and causes chronic thyroid damage, leading to a drop in thyroid hormone levels in your blood. If left untreated, Hashimoto’s may lead to a number of health conditions some of which are serious.

Some signs and symptoms of Hashimoto’s are:
Fatigue, confusion, headaches, difficulty in finding words, infertility, constipation, brittle nails, hair loss, weight gain, joint pain and stiffness, depression and memory lapse just to name a few.

Eliminating gluten and sugar from your diet and incorporating essential oils into your daily routine can be an effective and natural way to treat Hashimoto’s disease. Use the following recipe daily and, at least two times per day.

Mix Geranium, Lemongrass, Peppermint, and Frankincense in equal amounts, 3 to 5 drops of each, with 3 to 4 tablespoons of a base oil such as Almond, Jojoba, or Coconut. Use your nose to see what strength feels good for you! Store in a dark glass bottle or carry in your roller bottle to use throughout the day. 

Tip: Many people use essential oils undiluted, do a test patch on your skin to make sure you are not sensitive to the oils. If you do not experience sensitivity then consider using the oils undiluted. If however you are sensitive, then dilute with a carrier oil as previously described.

How to Use:

  • Massage on lower back on both sides of the spine in a downward motion.
  • Lightly massage onto the abdomen, starting just below the navel and massaging in a clockwise spiral out to the edge of the rib cage and the pelvis.
  • Massage the bottoms of the feet (arch area), palms of the hands and upper part of the ears.  


Oils are quickly absorbed into your bloodstream through the bottoms of your feet. If applied all over the bottoms of the feet, the oil can be detected in every cell of the body within 20 minutes.
